3. Salvage Sofa Cleaning Method

Sofa fabrics that have not been cleaned for many years and show signs of wear. very heavily soiled. this included sofa that have been in the home where major work has been carried out or with an open fire or wood burner. also water damaged sofas. Salvage Sofa Cleaning Method

Do not be afraid to tell the customer about the dirt hiding the wear on the sofa and that when cleaned this wear will be shown. it can be a shock

Preventive Sofa Cleaning Method

Method 1 : Water Based Solution, Spray/Towel Absorb

Condition : Light To Medium Soiling, wet clean fabrics

Objective :A regular maintenance system to remove light to medium greasy surface soil from the body contact areas without the use of an extraction machine.

Dry Times : Fabric should be touch dry within an hour.

This method relies on the correct solution and the use of quality absorbent towels.

Equipment

  • Vacuum
  • Hand spray. pressure or trigger
  • Tampico Brush
  • White Terry Towels
  • Drip Sheet

Cleaning Solutions

  • Prochem Bonnet Buff (dilute to instructions)
  • Prochem Fabric Restorer (use if perspiration or hair staining is evident)
  • Prochem Fibre Shampoo with a small amount of prochem fabric prespay for fabrics with slightly suspect dyes

Prochem Fibre and Fabric Rinse Should be use where the dyes may be suspect. It should not be used where oxidising bleach has been used as an additive in the shampoo mix.

How To Wet Clean A Sofa

  1. Dry vacuum the entire sofa
  2. Brush the matted areas particularly on the arms fronts
  3. Spray mist the cleaning solution directly onto the fabric from a distance of about 30 cm apply only enough to dampen the fabric.
  4. Brush in with the tampico brush on the more soiled areas.
  5. Repeat if necessary
  6. Wipe off with a clean terry towel

Method 2 : Dry Clean Solvent/Spirit Based Spray/Towel Absorb

Condition : Light to medium soiling dry clean only fabrics

Objective : To remove surface soil from body contact areas on fabrics such as natural fibre velvets or hypersensitive fabrics or fabrics with loose dyes where the use of water should be avoided.

Dry Times : About 18 hours

  • Prochem Dry Cleaning Additive
  • Prochem Solvent Base Odour Neutraliser

How To Clean Dry Clean Only Sofas

  1. Vacuum Sofa
  2. Brush the matted areas particularly on the arm fronts
  3. Spray the solvent directly onto the sofa from a distance of about 30 cm
  4. Agitate in with the tampico brush
  5. Wipe and absorb with a clean terry towel
  6. Leave to dry

Corrective Sofa Cleaning Method 

Method 3 : Water Based Soil Crystallisation, Hand Shampoo Treatment With Low Moisture Foam. (for wet clean only sofa cleaning)

Condition : Medium to heavy soiling or normal or for fabrics which have yellowing or browning.

Objective : To apply the minimum amount of water to achieve a fast drying method for fabrics which are not too heavily soiled. A method that can be used to carry an oxidising bleach for debrowning or lightening yellowed fabrics.

This method can be used also on commercial sofas which has soiling due to dust and genera grubbiness rather than grease.

Equipment :

  • vacuum
  • Hand Spray, Trigger or Pump
  • Clean Terry Towels
  • Tampico Brush
  • Hand Sponge
  • Bucket
  • Drip Sheet

Cleaning Solution:

  • Prochem Fabric Prespray
  • Fibre Shampoo

How To Clean Your Sofa

  1. vacuum sofa
  2. Brush matted areas
  3. Spray the heavy soiled areas
  4. Brush in with tampico brush
  5. Apply wet foam. squeeze out water and only use foam
  6. Wipe off with clean terry towel
  7. Light spray of fibre and fabric rinse if dyes are suspect. dont use if you have use and pre treatments like an oxidising bleach.

Method 4 : Soil Extraction, Pre Spray And Extraction Treatment

Condition : Heavy Soiling on wet cleanable fabrics

Objective : The flush and rinse out deeply ingrained soils and spots to give a more even result.

Dry Times: 4 to 6 hours

Stain remove is not part of this process and should be included in salvage cleaning

Cleaning Solutions:

  • Pre Spray, Prochem Fabric Prespray or Fabric Restorer
  • In Machine, Prochem Fibre And Fabric Rinse

How To Wet Clean Sofa Method 4

  1. Vacuum sofa
  2. Brush matted areas
  3. Pre spray contact areas like arms
  4. Brush in pre spray
  5. Flash out with extraction machine
  6. Repeat as necessary
  7. Dry with terry towels

Method 5 : Dry Clean, Solvent Based Spray Extraction Treatment

Condition : For dry clean only fabrics with heavy soiling.

Stain remove is not part of this process and should be included in salvage cleaning

Objective : To flush and rinse deeply ingrained greasy soils from fabrics which are not wet cleanable because of either dye bleed, pile distortion or swelling, browning, shrinkage.

Equipment:

  • Vacuum
  • Trigger Spray
  • Face Mask
  • Tampico Brush
  • Terry Towels
  • Solvent Extraction Machine

Cleaning Solutions :

  • Pre Spray, Prochem Dri Pro
  • Add Prochem Solvent Based Odour Neutraliser And Prochem Dry Cleaning Detergent Additive, (for sofas with odour issues)
  • Prochem Dri Pro For Extraction Machine

How To Dry Clean Sofas

  1. Vacuum sofa
  2. Brush matted areas
  3. Pre treat heavy soil areas
  4. Quickly agitate in with brush (before solvent dry out)
  5. Rinse and clean with dry clean extraction machine
  6. Wipe with clean terry towels

Make sure the room is well ventilated.

Method 6 : Dry Clean By Hand

Condition: Alternative method to method 5 for heavy soiling dry clean only fabrics

Objective : To remove deeply ingrained soil and dirt from dry clean only fabrics, and where a dry clean extraction machine is not available.

Equipment :

  • Vacuum
  • Short Bristle Brush
  • Hand Sprayer
  • Face Mask
  • Tampico Brush
  • Terry Towels
  • Drip Sheets
  • Stainless Steel Bowel Or Bucket

Cleaning Solutions :

  • Pre Spray, Prochem Dri Pro
  • Add Prochem Solvent Based Odour Neutraliser And Prochem Dry Cleaning Detergent Additive, (for sofas with odour issues)
  • The same products are used for the scrub clean. pour only sufficient into the bowel to complete the job.

How To Hand Dry Clean Your Sofa

  1. Vacuum
  2. Brush matted areas
  3. Pre treat by spray the contact areas like arms
  4. Quickly agitate in with tampico brush. work on a section at a time
  5. Remove lessoned soil with terry towels
  6. Repeat as necessary
  7. Scrub clean all other areas on sofa using solvent in bowel. dip brush in shake off excess. gently but firm. lightly scrubbing.
  8. Wipe clean.
  9. Wipe dry with terry towels

Make sure the room is well ventilated. do not use sofa until completely dry

Salvage Sofa Cleaning Method

Method 7 : Pre Spray And Wet Extraction

Condition : Extreme Soiling (heavy and deep) wet cleanable fabrics only

This method is the same as method 4 in the corrective sofa cleaning method, except that, because of the extreme soiling, the operations will be repeated several times.

Sometimes a return visit may be necessary when the fabric has partly dried ( but not fully dried) in order to re inspect and assess the result. further treatment may prove to be necessary.

The price should be at least 50% more of you method 4

Method 8: Wet Cleaning Treatment For Flooded Fabric

Condition : Flood damaged furniture. this method assumes that you are called in tp inspect the fabric when its still wet.

Carry out the following procedures

  1. inspect sofa to determine whether it is wet cleanable if it is not, then tell customer its irreparable.
  2. Write an invoice and report which the customer can present to their insurance company.
  3. Charge for advice and inspection

If the sofa is wet cleanable you should

  1. Extract excess water
  2. Using prochem fibre and fabric rinse, prochem cleansan, crystal green re wet using pressure spray
  3. Let solution dwell for 3 to 5 minutes then extract as much as you can.
  4. Use an air move to help drying with a dehumidifier left in the room
  5. Leave the home
  6. Return when dry to inspect overall and re clean if needed using method 3 or 4

Method 8 : Smoke odour And Or Soot Wet or Dry Cleanable

Condition : Smoke damaged sofa

Generally in all cases of smoke damage there will be a film of soot or greasy deposits over the sofa. The amount of this deposit will vary considerably from job to job. depending on the material that was burnt (plastic or paper)

The smoke odour and the soot deposits must be treated as two distinct problems.

  • If the soot deposit is heavy then this will have to be cleaned off then the fabric will need to be deodorised.
  • If the soot deposit is light then the cleaning and deodorising can be done in one operation.

For heavy soot deposits on wet cleanable sofas

  • Use method 4
  • Use Prochem Ultrapac Renovate as the pre spray
  • Rinse and neutralize with Prochem Fibre and Fabric Rinse, allow to partly dry
  • Deodorise with a fogmister using Prochem Odour Neutraliser
  • Allow to dwell in sealed room for 30 minutes, this will also deodorise the room as well.
  • Ventilate room with air movers and open windows.

Method 9 : Light Soot On Wet Cleanable Fabric

For light soot on wet cleanable fabrics

  • Use method 4 but add Prochem Odour Neutraliser to rinse.
  • Delete the fogmister operation.

For heavy soot on dry cleanable fabrics

Use method 5 add in Prochem Solvent Based Odour Neutraliser in both pre spray treatment and extraction cleaning solution.

Continue with deodorisation using fogger as described for wet cleanable fabrics

For light soot on dry clean only fabrics

  • Use method 5 but don’t deodorise with fogger.
